Overview
Kosher Arabia, a joint venture with Emirates Airlines, needed premium food packaging that reflected both the religious standards of kosher certification and the elevated experience of flying Emirates. This wasn’t just about wrapping food, it was about designing packaging that communicated trust, tradition, and world-class service, all while working seamlessly within the high-efficiency demands of airline catering.
I was brought in to design packaging that not only looked refined but also aligned with strict kosher dietary laws and Emirates’ commitment to quality. The packaging would serve as both a visual and functional touchpoint between the two brands.
Challange
One of the most complex tasks was designing a pizza box that could meet kosher religious requirements during in-flight heating. According to kosher law, food must not come into contact with non-kosher air, which meant a pizza couldn’t be reheated in the same oven used for other meals without a sealed barrier. Traditional airline ovens and packaging weren’t equipped to handle this level of separation.
Another challenge was ensuring all the packaging components maintained food safety, freshness, and ease of use for airline staff without sacrificing the aesthetic and premium feel expected on Emirates flights.
Outcome
I designed a dual-layer pizza box that cleverly solves the kosher heating dilemma. The inner box is completely sealed with no holes, no airflow, keeping the food protected from contamination. The outer layer is designed to allow heat to circulate, maintaining temperature and freshness without violating kosher standards. This made it easy for airline staff to prepare meals without additional complexity.
Alongside the pizza box, I developed vacuum-sealed food trays and a suite of packaging that balanced elegance, usability, and religious compliance. The final output elevated Kosher Arabia’s presence in-flight and reinforced both brands’ reputation for quality, care, and detail.
